A new vintage toy!

I have a new toy…

Vulcan 1

…one that I won’t be playing with because it’s a little bit old and rusty!

Vulcan 2

Isn’t it CUTE?!

Vulcan 4

I have been eye-ing off vintage toy sewing machines for some months now and at last, one has come to live with me!

This Vulcan was made in Germany in the 1940’s/50’s

To give you an idea of its scale… here it is sitting next to its big ‘Brother’!!!

Vulcan 6 pic

I love the shape and design of this one – it really screams ‘1950’s’ doesn’t it?!!

Do you collect old sewing machines?  If you do – please share as I’d love to hear about your passion!

Till next time – enjoy your vintage sewing!

Vikki, I have two old sewing machines. They are a 1948 and a 1953 Singer Featherweights. Unlike your Vulcan - both Featherweights are usable and both are used in quilt making - that is, when I am not knitting.
Ohhhh, but I do love your handsomely cute machine. Also, not too bad of accessories, either.

I only have mine own which I got when I was 8 years old. I cherish it. But I don't collect them, but I like to see them.

oh WOW, it is really gorgeous Vikki. When I was at a retreat in Nowra recently there was a blogging buddy sewing on a vintage Singer circa 1952 I think, perfect working order and quiet as. ENJOY your new toy!

HI Vikki

Oh wow, another vintage machine convert. I collect predominantly CASIGE machines (Germany). That sort of came about by accident but there are about 13 of them. I love that at some time a little kid was playing on them making clothes for her dollie. I would love the 'vintage' usables that some of the other comments are about, but I love these to look at. I will try and get some photos on my blog for you.

Hi Vikki, I have one of them too now!! I used a little blue one like that when I was little, and I loved it. I thought it was mine, but then unfortunately found out that it belonged to my older sister *sigh* typical of being the younger sibling, I got to play with it, but it was "hers" so she has it hidden away somewhere. So I bought one for myself from ebay, and I then got "hooked" and I have about 4 antique/old toy sewing machines. I must put some photos of them on my blog soon. I just love them all. I wish they could speak to tell me their history :0) Hugs n Blessings from Sue

I have a machine that my husband's Aunt June gave me a few years back. It's from the 1940's I think and it's made by Toyota!
Your vintage baby is a wonderful piece of the past.
Congratulations on you find!

Oh Vikki it's SO cute!!!! I just love it!!! I've got an old Singer hand crank (Eleanor) that Darryl found for me at an antique shop we came across on a Sunday drive once. I also have a 1952 Singer Featherweight (Hester) that works just beautifully and has the straightest straight stitch of all my machines (5 of them, and they all have names!).
Love n hugs,
Joy :o)

I love this machine! I've got the same one...it was my mom's when she was a kid. Hard to guess how she got it if it was German and 50s. She grew up in washington dc in the 60s.

Either way, I've wanted to start collecting toy sewing machines for a long time.

I'm not collecting (yet?), but I got my first vintage tay sewingmachine the other day. A darling red machin from the Sovjet Union, no idea how old. There is a picture on my blog. It works, but skip stiches and needs a higher tension and I have no idea how to do that, do you?
