Flood Appeal – My Auction - ‘Springtime’ BOM

I am sure that the majority of people now reading this post are fully aware of the devastation that has been caused by the floods in Queensland. It is mind-blowing to think that 75% of the state has been declared a disaster zone, and that equates to an area the size of France and Germany, put together.

It is beyond comprehension, so many people’s lives have been affected, or worse still, lost.

I have been in silent prayer the past few days, but mourning isn’t as effective as action. Toni at Make it Perfect has organised a huge on-line auction and all proceeds will be going to the Premier’s Flood Appeal.

I am auctioning a complete set of patterns for the ‘Springtime’ quilt, designed by the Gum Tree Designers for Fresh Hope Patterns.

There are nine patterns for nine stitchery blocks, with comprehensive instructions for how to put the quilt together.

The winning bidder will also receive a bespoke quilt LABEL made by me, which will have EACH GUM TREE DESIGNER’S NAME SIGNED on it.

Here is how it works…

1. Bidding will start at $50 Australian

2. Place your bid by leaving a comment on this post with the amount you are bidding, together with your email address

3. I will pay for postage anywhere in the world

4. The Auction will start NOW and will END midday (12 noon) Tuesday 25th January (Melbourne time)

5. I will notify the winner at closing

6. Winner will pay direct to Premier's Flood Relief Appeal

7. Once proof of payment has been received the BOM will be posted. The label may take a few days longer to post, due to some of the gum tree designers living in states that have been affected by the floods, and therefore not receiving or being able to post items themselves. But it WILL follow!

Remember that every single cent goes to those people who need it in Queensland.

Leaving the Gum Trees…

Life is a series of chapters - forever changing - but always bringing with it new experiences and opportunities.

I have had the most amazing experiences over the past 15 months thanks to belonging to the wonderful group of women that you and I both know as the Gum Tree Designers.

And what a lovely bunch of women they are too! Supportive, sharing and caring, not to mention ‘giving’ which is what the Gum Trees is all about! I’d like to take this opportunity to publically thank each and every Gum Tree Designer for their friendship, and for mentoring and supporting my creative growth. Thank you, girls!!! xxx

I have been burning the candle at both ends this past year and have needed to take some time out to re-focus on my priorities in life. Motherhood is, and always will be my main priority; and family matters of late have meant that I’ve been unable to fully commit to my role in the Gum Trees. So it is time to step aside and now be a spectator of the wonderful charitable work that these ladies perform.

A balancing act!

One of the biggest lessons I have learned over the past year is that when one has too many things in life to balance, they can’t give 100 per cent to everything. And I yearn to give one hundred per cent!

So, whilst family life remains my number one priority, it is closely followed by persuing my dream of developing my business.

Creating cute and quirky creations for SEW Useful Designs fills me with inspiration and enthusiasm, served up on a lovely bright platter of fulfilment! I don’t know about you but with creativity as the main course - I’m ready for second servings!! LOL!! :-) And I’m looking forward to sharing my platter of patterns with you as we all enjoy the next chapters in our lives…

‘Sharing’ My block for Fresh Hope!

I have been sat here for the best part of 20 minutes writing and re-writing this post! Truth is, I have been so excited about us Gum Tree girls introducing ‘Springtime’ with you that I am stumbling for words!

So… I thought I’d carry on stumbling as it’s more interesting than looking at a blank page! he he..

‘Springtime’ is a beautiful quilt designed by the Gum Tree Designers for the wonderful charity, Fresh Hope. You can read the full story behind it and see the finished quilt here. :-)

I’d like to introduce you to the block that I designed, and share my inspiration with you…

“Sharing”

When reflecting on the charity ‘Fresh Hope’, I considered how liberating it would be for the young women receiving care to be able to share their problems; and also, I envisaged their tremendous courage in accepting help. It led me to thinking about the innocence of youth, with no fears of sharing, and a bounty of trust in the heart. With the theme of Springtime, the vision of a young girl sharing acorns with a squirrel popped in to my mind. The usually timid creature felt safe and trusted in his young companion’s company while she enjoyed his beauty - out in the open air - with no boundaries.

It has been an honour to contribute to Fresh Hope Patterns, and a privilege to work with such beautiful women in making it happen. Thank you Vicki, thank you Dawn, thank you Jenny, thank you Fee, thank you Cheryl, thank you Joy and thank you Judith! My dear friends! Special thanks also to darling Blossom (Jenny’s daughter) for designing the ninth block – it’s so special! :-) {{Hugs darling girl!}}
