Birthday gifts and Parisian projects

We’ve just started school holidays here in the state of Victoria, and it’s real ‘curl up indoors’ kind of weather – windy and raining – I love it!  Maybe it’s my English roots… but there’s something about it being dark and wet outside that makes me feel all cozy and content.

It was my big 40th last month and I thought I’d share my birthday gifts with you!

Birthday gift 2

Mr SUDs and the kids bought me a vintage toy sewing machine – this one is a Comet.  If you’ve been reading my blog for a while then you may remember my obsessing about these vintage toys before, here.  I now have a small collection of seven, all of different makes, shapes and genres!

The beautiful hand-made cushion is a gift from my dear friend Jenny, her stitching is divine, as is the message she has for me… just what I needed, {thanks Jen!!} x

This cute Matroyshka doll was handmade by a sweet friend of mine,  she always makes the loveliest projects and I always fall in love with her fabric choices!  She gifted me something else really cute that I haven’t yet photographed – but will do once I’ve repurposed it!  Curious??

The vintage tea cup is filled with a vanilla-scented soy candle and is way too cute to light!  And the little brooches are so sweet.  You can’t really tell in this photo, but Little Red Riding Hood is actually a painted wooden cut-out delicately stuck to the fabric on the brooch.

Mr SUDs and I visited an antique shop on my birthday and he gifted me this stunning vintage watch:

I usually go for bold and chunky jewellery, being a big fan of semi-precious stones like moonstone and amber, but I’m beginning to fall in love with dainty and delicate.

The final gift that I’d like to show you is this amazingly chic mannequin… three of my close girlfriends clubbed together to buy it for me.  Isn’t it gorgeous?!!

Birthday gift 4

I was very spoilt!!!

On to other news, and I’ve had a couple of projects published in this month’s issue of Handmade magazine.

Do you remember the croissant pincushion I made some months ago?

You can now find the pattern for this in Handmade… and if you live overseas I will be releasing the pattern next month Smile

Also published is this Eiffel Tower doorstop…

Handmade magazine, Vol 30 No 5 (The Patchwork Annual) is now in Australian newsagents!

I haven’t got much planned for the school holidays.  Master SUDs is on crutches as he had a sporting injury last Sunday resulting in a sprained foot – we were all so relieved that he didn’t break anything – but he’s still a hop-along-Cassidy!!  Young Miss SUDs wants to learn how to sew… (Oh yeah baby!!!!!) so I’ve got a little kit for her to learn how to hand-sew.  Oh, and I’ve bought her a battery-operated vintage toy sewing machine for her birthday in August (shhh!!!)  The modern ones are so safety conscious that I’ve heard from a couple of friends that they’re too difficult to thread!

Chat soon lovely people!  Wherever you are and whatever you’re doing – I hope you’re happy!

Hugs! Vikki xo
