A Giveaway full of surprise!!

Do you like surprises?

Are you one of those people who surreptitiously rips the wrapping paper of a parcel to peek at what’s inside? Or - on the contrary – would you look away sharpish if you thought that the surprise might be accidentally revealed before it’s time???

I fall in to the second category – I don’t like to know what’s inside a parcel until it’s time to open it! My sister in England, on the other hand, can guess what’s inside a parcel at ten paces! Over the years, my brother and I have tried to disguise gifts within oversized boxes, and she will even guess that we’ve done just that. She’s a little minx!

So this is where YOU come in! I’d like to surprise one of you with a giveaway – but I’m not going to tell you what it is! Does that sound fair? <giggle>

Giveaway button

It’s easy to enter – all you have to do is leave me one comment for one entry. If you are a follower of my blog, or become a follower, please leave a comment for a second entry. Simple as that! The only condition is that you leave me a way of getting in contact with you, should you be the winner! If you like, I’d love to hear about any funny gift-giving stories you may have! Or you could share what your all-time-favourite-gift has been?!

This giveaway is open until Wednesday 13 April, 12:00 noon, Melbourne time. THE GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED

You know – I’m feeling in a very impish mood – I think I’ll be giving you some teasers over the next 12 days!!!!

I look forward to hearing from you!

Hugs! Vikki Smile

Hi Vikki. I do not have a funny gift giving story but the best of all gifts is one I received last year in October. My daughter sent me a card - which arrived on the day of my birthday and inside the envelope was a handmade card telling me and my husband that we were going to be grandparents. This is the very first one for us and we are super excited. The wee one is due at the end of April. It was truly the best gift ever.

Oh yes, and of course, I do follow you.

I'm always willing to wait until it is time, but not so my husband. If it is wrapped and out in plain sight it is far game for shaking, squeezing, sniffing, checking for loose tape, etc. AND never, never, ever say 'I know what you're getting for...' LOL

This is fun. Once my sister in law, who loves doing novelty wrapping, gave me money towards buying a new vacuum for Christmas. We exchange names and only give to one person so she was giving me $100 or so (this was 25 years ago). She got it all in one dollar bills and scrunched them all into balls and somehow inserted them in her vacuum with the sucker on reverse so it blew. I can't remember exactly how she presented it but there was a shower of scrunched up dollar bills. I don't think I spent it on a vacuum in the end....well there was obviously something more exciting for me to buy.

Hi Sweetie! I do love surprises but my hubby gave me a set of World War 1 medals for Mother's Day one year as he was trying to get me interested in his hobby of collecting medals. They're now sitting in amongst his collection! You'd think he'd buy me something for my hobby!!
and you know me, I follow :-)

hi Vikki...love surprises but don't get them very often (never in fact!)

One year I gave my eldest daughter some money for Christmas as well as presents...I put $50 into a small box (bit bigger than a matchbox), wrapped in up, put that into a huge box (about 3 foot square), stuffed it with newspaper, wrapped it.
She opened it, pulled out all the paper and cracked it cos she didn't find the little box and thought the box was empty.
The rest of us had seen it and one sister pounced on it..exclaiming it was her's cos the other one couldn't find it...made for quite a few laughs that year!
Now every year the girls look very carefully through their presents, just in case I've hidden something...
cheers Julz

Oh Vikki what fun - I'm in the second category too, matter of fact I love to prolong the suspense and I open gifts SO slowly, the giver has been known to rip it out of my hands and open it themselves. *G*

I like surprises but rarely get them, but them I'm the one that rips the paper off as well.
I'm a sot of bear collector and a couple of years ago my son wrapped Big Ted in many different layers of paper - took ages to open

I think one of the nicest surprises I gave was for my sister-in-laws 60th birthday. We now live in France and had already had one trip over to the UK that year so said we would not be there for her party....hubby said why didn't I go on my own and surprise her. So we began the planning all her family were in on it, I still don't know how we managed to keep it a secret. My niece collected me from the airport and I walking in to say "Happy Birthday" to my SIL, there was a lot of tears and hugs and it was just one of the best moments, and the party was good too!

Hi Vikki- I love surprises. :) My husband has a very annoying habit of spending what seems like ages, shaking/squeezing/inspecting his gifts and trying to guess what they are, most of the time, like your sister, he can guess right! :)

OH Vikki!!
A surprise Giveaway?! How exciting!
We give a pair of socks to my Dad every year for one of his presents at Christmas. One year we decided to disguise them in a huge box along with a handful of marbles! We made him open it last and he was genuinely sad that he thought he wasn't getting socks until he opened the present! We totally tricked him! Heehee!

Hey Vikki! Oh! I am so with your sister on this! :0) One Christmas, my Beloved thought he'd been really clever buying me something I couldn't POSSIBLY guess... he said as much and I asked for one hint. He showed me how big the item was and even though it really was a random kind of gift (which I loved, I might add!) I guessed it! Tee! Hee! Hee! I'm the same once I buy something for someone ... can't wait to give it to them and have been known to give birthday and Christmas gifts early just cos I can't wait! :0) Bear Hugs! KRIS

PS. The word verification is "obsess" ... hmmm ... Freudian?!?!?! :0) BH!

Ooh what fun. I love surprises. I recently made a quilt for an aunt who's just had an operation, and sent it off. Eventually I had an email from the lady who's actually living in the house and had managed to track me down to tell me that my aunt has moved. It seems that this lady has been receiving Christmas cards from us for the last twelve years, since my aunt moved, and hasn't been able to get in touch with us until now to let us know. What must my aunt have thought of us as twelve Christmases passed without a card from us!

Hello Vikki, I do love the cupboard you are doing up. Great find at the op-shop. Gift giving is fun, I love receiving presents from one of my sisters, she wraps them so beautifully, all the family has commented on this. She makes lovely homemade cards as well.
Happy days.

I don't know how funny this is, but last year my aunt sent me a mediium sized box. When I opened it she had put a card on top that read, "I am sending you a kit". All excited, I opened the plastic bag containing the "kit" and found it to be stuffed so full of 1.5" strips of fabric that I couldn't stuff them back down into the box! I had so much fun with those strips that I now keep a basket full of my own 1.5"strips. ~karen

I love surprises, esp. the so very nice wrapped ones.
I make it a bit of a ceremony. No peeking, but I brew a big mug of coffee first, favorably with something nice and sweet :-).
than install myself on the couch, admiring the gift and than, slowly, unwrap it carefully LOL, yep, I try to make the most out of it.

Marcia W. said...

The suspense of the gift is so nice so I wait in eager anticipation. My mother didn't want anything for Christmas so gave her an "IOU a shopping trip". She has already forgotten this - so I've reminded her that we need to go shopping for her some lovely new outfits. That's the fun part for me. French General - ooh la la!
